Worth Noting Issue 05
03.03.24: Dressing to match interiors, the cult of the pastry, two fabulous home tours, how to watch Oscar nominated films, and more.
Hello readers and hello March! I can’t quite believe we’re already in the third month of the year, but I’m not complaining. It’s my birthday month! And I’ll be heading to Florida soon to reunite with my mom for a few weeks, see my brothers, and soak in the sunshine and warmth and sea air. The weather has also started to warm up in DC a bit and with daylight savings on the horizon, we’re inching closer and closer to spring. All good things.
Currently, as I write this, I’m sitting at the bay house in Delaware checking in on it, and it’s pouring and windy, the sound of rain slapping the window and Millie snuggled on my lap. I’m fully embracing a cozy day in and planning to spend much of this weekend enjoying Oscar nominated films… then hopefully galavanting around some small seaside towns when the sun decides to show.
Before diving into things worth noting, I wanted to say thank you again. Since sharing the news last weekend about removing paywalls, I’ve received such wonderful, kind, motivating messages from you all. Your support means so much and I’m lucky to have such a great community. That said, let’s get into all the things bringing me joy. This email is a big one, so you may need to click to expand if prompted below.
🏛️ NOTE. A few readers have let me know my emails are going to spam or promotions. Tragic! Please move my newsletters into your regular inbox or mark as “not spam” so your inboxes learn where to send them. Replying to me or adding my email to your contacts will also help!
Each month, I share 10 things bringing me joy, from creatives I’m following, good reads, what to watch, and other beautiful things worth noting.
01. While alone at the bay, I thought it’d be the perfect time to get in as many Oscar nominationed films as possible. Among them, I went to see The Taste of Things, a French film set in the 1800s following an exquisite love story between a gourmet chef and his cook, layered against visuals of cooking and plating the most beautiful dishes. I’m a sucker for foodie films and this one captivated me.
02. Molly Blutstein is a creator I was so happy to stumble upon again through Substack having followed her and her twin sister years ago. I instantly subscribed to In The Details With Molly when I came across it and am absolutely smitten with her series Outfits & Interiors. A good reminder of how we can be inspired to get dressed every day, and I’m certainly taking note on this approach.
03. I fell into the Nara Smith rabbit hole and I’m obsessed. While she may be getting flack for her unrelatable content, I’m mesmerized by how she manages to share cooking content, making many delicious eats from scratch, while looking absolutely fabulous (and pregnant!).
04. I’ve been admiring Casa Gusto for years now and love browsing their unique antiques as well as their own products. Their interior design is also very swoon-worthy, especially here and here. They’re currently on my mind as I’m determined to make a visit there on one of my FL trips—perhaps this one.
05. If I had an alter ego that was draped in color and who decorated with all the patterns, I would be Meg Busacca-Green. I absolutely adore following her on Instagram for regular glimpses into her colorful world of art and fashion and life happenings. Her home is a dream and I’m enamored by how free she is with mixing and matching, whether in her daily looks, tablescapes, or decorating.
06. I loved seeing more of the Parisian apartment of collector Marie-Anne Derville. I’ve admired it on Instagram and was so happy to see it featured in AD France. A mix of art deco styles, 80s furniture, and Louis XIV period pieces layered against a neutral backdrop makes for the most chic and quintessential Parisian space.
07. I also admired this perfectly curated jewel box of a studio in Nolita. I’m enthralled by how grand Marshall Neve made his 300(!) squarefoot, 4th floor walk up feel. I also adore the delicious brown walls in the main living area—a similar color to my bedroom. Such a quaint and cozy home.
08. “I love bread,” said Oprah. But also me, a thousand times. I enjoyed this read in FT about the cult of the pastry and fetishistic hype around the croissant. What’s not to love? Mostly good if you want to inspire yourself into suddenly craving a really delicious pastry or needing an excuse to indulge.
09. It may interest you to hear Sophia Amoruso is ready to retire the ‘Girlboss’ for good. Finally! “She coined the term that inspired a generation of women entrepreneurs—and then sunk them. Ten years later, the original #Girlboss is casting off that label and embarking on her next chapter.” A good long feature to sink into this Sunday.
10. If you, like me, look forward to the Oscars every year, you’re probably preparing by watching as many nominated films as possible! Especially those Best Picture nominees. Vulture breaks down how to watch or stream all of them.
Talk again soon (but also, let’s do another poll!),
Natalie
Lately, on Substack…I shared how I have regrets and am ditching the paywall, a new curio cabinet of pieces I’m eyeing for home and closet, the February antique roundup, and a furnished affair.
